As the star of a CBS serial killer procedural Criminal Minds: Evolutionas well as horror series like Midnight mass and The Fall of the House of Usheractor Zach Gilford is no stranger to gruesome phenomena, but things got all too real when the 42-year-old actor suffered an allergic reaction on Monday, December 16.
The A crazy kind of love the actor shared photos on his Instagram Story on Tuesday, December 17 that highlighted his swollen face. “Soooo… yesterday was fun,” he captioned the first image. He didn’t explain what prompted the reaction, but captioned a selfie from the hospital, in which his eyes were practically swollen shut, he wrote: “Good thing we wrapped up @criminalminds last week.” It is obvious that Good girls the actor felt that he would not be ready to return to work anytime soon.
Fans Friday night lights however, the old man doesn’t have to worry about his face being irreversibly damaged. The final selfie Gilford shared showed that the swelling had already gone down significantly. In the caption, Gilford thanked “all the nurses, doctors and staff at @huntingtonhospital for persuading [his] face back to normality,” although he admitted that he had “…still some way to go” before true normalcy could be achieved.
Gilford is best known for his role as Matt Saracen on the popular NBC football drama, Friday night lights. He currently plays Elias Voit, a serial killer and the main antagonist Criminal Minds: Evolutionwhich is a spinoff of the original CBS police procedural starring Mandy Patinkin. Gilford’s real-life wife, Keile Sanchez, portrays Elias’ wife, Sydney Voit, on the show. The couple share seven-year-old daughter Zeppelin Adele Gilford, who was born by surrogate after their previous attempt at parenthood sadly ended in stillbirth.
