He comes across a job offer from parents looking for someone to “date” their 19-year-old son before he heads off to college. It’s ridiculous, wild, funny, and reminiscent of comedies that we don’t see much of these days. Along with the laughs, there’s also a beautiful vulnerability and an acoustic performance of Barth Feldman’s “Maneater.”

She is a Man

Based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, She’s the Man stars Amanda Bynes. Viola is a soccer player who disguises herself as her twin brother, Sebastian, to trick his elite boarding school into believing that she is still attending classes while he is away pursuing his music career. Channing Tatum is Duke, the school’s star football player, and Viola as Sebastian begins to help him overcome his difficulties with girls.

The next thing he knows, he’s waking up in the Big Apple with a job at his favorite magazine and no idea what happened. Her childhood best friend, Matt, helps her remember and the two rekindle their friendship.

Silver Linings Playbook

An offbeat rom-com that veers closer to dark comedy, Silver Linings Playbook is an adaptation of Matthew Quick’s novel of the same name. It has an all-star cast including Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker, Anupam Kher, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham, Julie Stiles and Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar for her role as Tiffany. It follows former teacher Pat Solitano who moves back in with his parents after spending time in a mental hospital. Desperate to reconcile with his restraining wife, he strikes up a friendship with Tiffany, a woman dealing with her own issues.
