Kraven the Hunter marks the end of the Sony Spider-Man (SSU) world. In this feature, let’s take a look and see how it stacks up against Sony’s previous villain-centric releases.
SSU started in 2018 with Poison. The first feature film to focus on the brain-eating demon stars Tom Hardy as reporter Eddie Brock, who is plagued by an alien parasite that gives him the ability to shapeshift.
While not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, subsequent sequels have teased Venom’s existence in the Spider-Man world. Post-credits scene for 2021 Venom: Let There Be Carnage for example, he showed Brock watching Tom Holland’s Spider-Man on TV. However, they never actually meet.

Morbius followed in 2022, again teasing plots that never materialize. It follows Dr. Jared Leto, who commits vampirism in an attempt to cure his illness. The post-credits scene features Michael Keaton’s Vulture, last seen in Spider-Man Homecomingwho is making a comeback. It looks like this setup isn’t going to be fixed anytime soon.
Madame Web came in 2023 and received the lowest review score in SSU history. The story of a Manhattan paramedic who gains the ability to see into the future has been widely sought after for its wooden performances and underwhelming plot.
At the beginning of this year Venom: The Last Dance concluded the Hardy trilogy and confirmed it as Sony’s biggest success by far. and lastly, Kraven the Hunter released, pulling back a summary with bad reviews almost on par Madame Web and Morbius.
