So, after authorities named Luigi Mangione as the prime suspect in the case of murdered United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, true crime fans on social media started imagining a movie adaptation of his story.
Users on X (formerly known as Twitter) were quick to identify actors who could take on the role of the 26-year-old suspect.
Several users mentioned actor Dave Franco as the perfect man to take on the role. “So casting Dave Franco as #LuigiMangione is a done deal, right?” asked one user X. “We’re all rooting for Dave Franco to play Luigi Mangion in a movie or TV series,” said another. A few true crime buffs assumed that Ryan Murphy, the creator Monsters, American Crimeand others, would lead the series. “Can’t wait to see Dave Franco play Luigi Mangion in whatever TV series Ryan Murphy is making,” wrote one such user.
Franco, 39, was far from the only actor proposed for the role. Other playgrounds included in the price Dune heartthrob Timothée Chalamet, — “Timothee Chamalet for the role of Luigi Mangione, please,” pleaded one of the actor’s fans — Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, — “Dave Franco is too old. It has to be Jacob Elordi or Timothée Chalamet as Luigi Mangione” declared one true crime aficionado — or Monsters actor Cooper Koch. Another user suggested Penn Badgley, who plays a serial killer on Netflix You. “Anyone who says dave franco or timothee chalamet should play luigi mangion but PENN BADGLEY IS RIGHT THERE,” declared an upset fan.
Despite the violent crime he’s accused of, Mangione has become something of a pop culture phenomenon Saturday Night Live he made several references to the alleged killer in the December 14 episode.
