Lori Loughlin Talks Major Milestone After College Scandal

Lori Loughlin shares a look at her latest acting gig.

The 60-year-old actress has landed her first starring role in a TV series since 2020, when she spent two months in prison for her involvement in a college admissions scandal. The Full house alum will portray law enforcement officer Lt. Bishop in the upcoming procedural drama On call.

On Thursday, December 19, Loughlin spoke with E! News about his filming experience On call which also stars Troian Bellisario from pretty little liars Brandon Larracuente of 13 Reasons Why and ER alum Eriq La Salle. Loughlin said it “felt great” to be back on the TV series.

“It really was so empowering and so different,” Loughlin said. “I just enjoyed watching on set [the cast and crew] work, stand back and watch them film and watch them use body cams, dash cams and drones.”

Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli – who share daughters Bella Rose, 26, and Olivia Jade, 25 – were indicted on fraud and bribery charges in a 2019 college admissions scandal in which several stars falsified information to get their children got to universities. In 2020, Loughlin pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and spent two months in prison.

Today, When the heart calls alum is happy — if a little nervous — to dive into his new role. She described the project as “quite a beautiful production” but noted that she was “apprehensive” when stepping into her character.

“The challenge out of the gate was to play a role that was unknown and tap into parts of me that existed but [are] not necessarily how I approach life,” she explained.

Loughlin credited her success in navigating her character La Salle, who served as director and executive producer on the project. “Eriq really helped me find the character and gave me the confidence to really lean into that she’s unapologetic, that she’s a strong woman, that she’s determined, that she leads the department, that she shows that kind of strength and that leadership,” the nominated actress noted at the Emmys.

All in all, 90210 alum told the outlet that she was playing Lt. Bishop. “Once I got into it, it was great fun,” she joked.

On call premiering on Sunday, January 9 on Prima Video.
