TV fans think that the latest hit show, landman, made fun of Bud Light beer.
The beer, owned by parent company Anheuser-Busch, came under fire in 2023 for partnering with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, and many people staged a months-long boycott.
Landman is the latest TV drama produced by Taylor Sheridan, following on from his other hits such as Yellowstone, 1923, Lioness and Mayor of Kingstown.
Set in the oil fields of West Texas, the show stars Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore and Jon Hamm.
In the latest episode, Thornton’s character, Tommy Norris, walks into a bar where the server informs him that they have a Bud Light special.
“I bet you are,” Norris replies, and another character, Dale Bradley (James Jordan), then asks the server, “Yeah, how are you doing?”
“Like a popcorn fart in church,” he replies.
Bud Light struggled to reclaim its brand after being implicated in the culture war over his stance on LGBTQ+ issues.
Sheridan also appears to have a long-standing relationship with Bud Light rival Coors, once appearing in a commercial for the brand in 1997. Fans have also accused others on his show, Yellowstone, full product placement, including many Coors brand appearances in the episodes.
TV viewers watch the latest Landman responded to the Bud Light hit on X, formerly Twitter.
“Taylor Sheridan Landman’s new show blasts Bud Light in the latest episode. Nothing unites people like making fun of Bud Light for being a woke disaster,” wrote David Hookstead.
“Only Taylor Sheridan would needlessly kick a Bud Light halfway through an episode of #Landman,” Chaz Powers commented.
“Lmao bud light gossip,” added user X, @Brazil201.
Landman debuted on the Paramount Network in November and wasted no time breaking ratings records.
The network revealed that more than 14.9 million people watched the series in its first four weeks on Paramount+, and it is now the most-watched TV show on the streaming service.
“Working with Taylor at her peak is really special because she’s doing some of the best shows on television,” she said.
“People love them and they’re fun to work on. I’m just lucky.”
