Kevin Costner hasn’t spoken to the ‘Yellowstone’ star since he left the show

With the end Yellowstoneas well as Kevin Costner’s contact with his on-screen son – at least according to Luke Grimes.

Grimes, who played John Dutton’s (Costner) youngest son Kayce in the gritty western drama, said Men’s health in an interview published Monday, Dec. 17, that he hasn’t spoken to the legendary actor since Costner’s character was killed off earlier in Season 5. (The series ended on Sunday, December 15.)

“No, I haven’t spoken to him since. There’s no hard feelings or anything, it’s just Kevin Costner,” Grimes, 40, laughed, adding: “It’s a big deal.”

While Grimes acknowledged that he “has [Costner’s] phone number,” he just “doesn’t feel like it’s my place to turn.”

“She can turn to me if she wants to,” he said Fifty Shades of Grey said the star.

As for John Dutton’s shocking death on the show, the development came as a blow to the entire cast, Grimes shared.

“None of us saw it coming, and apparently there were reports of possible explosions behind the scenes or something,” he explained, hinting at a supposed rift between Costner and series creator Taylor Sheridan.

“But just like in life, man, these things happen, they happen fast, and they’re not predictable,” Grimes continued, drawing parallels between his own father’s real-life death and his father’s on-screen death (and the alleged behind-the-scenes drama that caused it).

“I lost my father a few years ago. It happened quickly and it wasn’t the way you would think it would happen. These things happen in life and then people have to start making decisions,” Grimes said. “And in our little Yellowstone world, it helped bring the show to a boil.

As for Costner’s take on how his character was written off, he admitted Program by Michael Smerconish in November — one day after the episode aired — that he hadn’t seen it.

“I heard it’s suicide,” he said at the time (though in reality, the show eventually revealed that his son Jamie’s girlfriend had hired a hitman to kill him).

“So it doesn’t make me rush to see it,” Costner added.

The Field of dreams star confirmed his departure from the show in June.
