The younger son of Beatles legend John Lennon has hit out at social media users after his comments about Elon Musk sparked abuse.
Sean Ono Lennon, son of the late musician and his wife Yoko Ono, recently took to X, formerly Twitter, to defend X owner Musk from criticism regarding his level of power and influence.
Musk, the world’s richest man and one of President-elect Donald Trump’s most prominent allies, drew considerable attention from the political world last week, as well as considerable opposition from Democrats, as he played a major role in fueling a bipartisan spending deal. .
While a new deal was reached and passed Congress on December 20, many warned that a government shutdown could occur if the original deal fails.
Although many leading Republicans have touted the South African-born Musk as a positive influence on American politics, Democrats have criticized the billionaire and suggested he make the calls instead of Trump. Some began referring to him as “President Musk” and Trump as “Vice President” when the spending bill debacle ensued.
Musician Lennon, 49, took up X during the discourse to push back against criticism of Musk, comparing the firm’s owner to a number of other billionaire businessmen with influential power.
“People who complain about @elonmusk’s influence never complained [Bill] Gates or Google or [George] Soros or [Jeff] Bezos or [Mark Zuckerberg]…the list goes on,” he wrote.
“Maybe because you’re full of s***?” user X responded, prompting Lennon to take aim at the vegetarianism expressed by his criticism, writing: “Soy.”
Another X user chimed in, commenting that Lennon’s late father was “rolling in his grave”.
“Your mom is rolling in my bed,” Lennon replied, to which user X replied that he was a “50-year-old man.”
“And your mama keeps coming back for more,” Lennon wrote in the exchange.
Lennon is no stranger to sharing his opinions online. Before the presidential election, he discussed Trump, who wrote: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” on Truth Social after the singer endorsed his rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I can’t think of a single song, so I don’t really know if I like it or not,” Lennon said on social media about Swift’s music. “But I do know that she is an exceptionally successful American. A young woman who did things like no one before her had done.”
Lennon later continued in the post, “A more ‘presidential’ or kinder criticism might be something like ‘She’s a fine young woman.’ I have a lot of respect for what she has accomplished. I don’t believe he knows reality. of the party she supports, I hope her fans can make up their own minds and understand the big difference between being talented in music and understanding politics or economics.”
He also wrote that it’s “not a good look” for “some old grumpy guy who’s mad at her,” referring to Trump’s post about Swift.
