Jamie Foxx was celebrating his birthday on Friday when someone threw a glass at him, causing him to need stitches.
The outlet said an assault report was filed and Foxx’s name came up as one of the parties involved in the incident. A spokesperson for Foxx has since confirmed that the actor was involved, while police said no arrests have been made.
“Someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth,” Foxx’s spokesman said Los Angeles Times. “He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called and the matter is now in the hands of law enforcement.”
The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) said it responded at 10:06 p.m. to a reported possible assault with a deadly weapon and determined it was unfounded.
“Instead, the incident involved a physical altercation between the parties,” the department’s press release said. “BHPD conducted a preliminary investigation and completed a report documenting the battery. No arrests have been made.”
Foxx took to Instagram on Sunday to thank those who checked him out after the altercation. He posted the picture with the words: “The devil is busy… but I’m too blessed to be stressed.”
He captioned the post: “The devil is a lie. There is no winning here… thank you all who pray and check me out… when your light shines bright… they try to bring you darkness… but they don’t know you are made for it … the lights were shining bright… and a huge thank you to everyone who watched and got inspired by “What Had Happened Was” … number 1 on @netflix if you haven’t checked it out please go check it out it’s from my heart and my soul…”
Foxx was at the restaurant with his family, including his daughters Corinne and Anelise, as well as his ex-partner Kristin Grannis to celebrate his 57th birthday.
Jamie Foxx was previously hospitalized
In April 2023, it was revealed that Foxx had been hospitalized following an unspecified “medical complication”. In May of that year, his daughter Corinne Foxx confirmed that he was out of hospital and “on the mend”.
The actor and comedian spoke publicly about his medical emergency in his new Netflix comedy special, What happened was…released on December 10. He recalled how a headache had left him unconscious for several weeks. He jokingly recalled asking a friend for aspirin only to later realize his condition was much more serious. “I don’t remember 20 days,” he said.
The Django Unchained star recounted a visit to a doctor in Atlanta who simply gave him cortisone before sending him on his way. “What the hell? I don’t know if you can Yelp for doctors, but that’s half a star,” he joked.
Fortunately, his sister, Deidra Dixon, intervened and brought him to Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, where doctors determined he had a brain hemorrhage and was in danger of dying if not treated immediately. Foxx said his sister’s hunches and constant prayers during the surgery were crucial in saving his life.
As he wrapped up the special, he recalled the difficult recovery process, saying he “lost everything” but kept his sense of humor. He ended the set by thanking the audience and his family for their support.
