Marvel is set to expand its video game output, with nearly a dozen games based on its superheroes currently in development. With the MCU currently hitting roadblocks in its grand plan for Avengers: Secret Wars, there will be plenty of Marvel content for gamers to keep us busy for years to come.
Marvel’s Blade
Announced during The Game Awards 2023, Marvel’s Blade is being developed by Lyon-based studio Arkane, the minds behind Prey, Dishonored and Deathloop. The announcement trailer shows Daywalker in an all-new, original story set in Paris. The company hasn’t announced what platforms the game will be released on, but common sense (and a $7.5 billion acquisition) suggests it could be an Xbox exclusive. However, with Microsoft willing to put its upcoming games on multiple platforms, we could be looking at Blade coming to the PS5.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Insomniac Games shocked everyone by announcing a new Wolverine game in development for the PS5 nearly two years ago. Hack Insomniac points to plans to release the game in 2026, giving the developers plenty of time to prepare a new story for Logan. Insomniac has confirmed that the game is set in the same universe as its Spider-Man games, so it looks like Wolverine will be used as a launching pad to herald the arrival of a standalone X-Men game.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is being overseen by Amy Hennig, creative director of the Uncharted games, so there’s evidence to suggest that the game will be pretty amazing in the narrative department. The new game will feature Captain America and Black Panther as playable heroes in WWII-era Paris, along with Gabriel, a member of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy. Azzuri will be the Black Panther era. All we know is that the game will be released sometime in 2025, with the latest trailer focusing more on its cutting-edge visuals and narrative than its mechanics.
Marvel Mystic Mayhem
Marvel Mystic Mayhem is a team-based tactical RPG from NetEase Games, the same people behind Marvel Rivals. Unlike the fast-paced shooter Rivals, Mystic Mayhem takes elements from the MOBA genre. Nightmare will serve as his primary antagonist, trapping the Marvel heroes in their worst nightmares, which should make for some great dungeons. Marvel Mystic Mayhem is in development for Android and iOS and currently has no release date.
Marvel’s Iron Man (Untitled)
EA-owned Motive Studio, the developer behind the 2023 Dead Space remake, is working on a new Iron Man game. Not much is known about the game, except that it will be a single-player adventure with an original story. The game is being developed by Olivier Proulx, who previously worked on the highly underrated Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Motive proved they can handle atmospheric third-person storytelling with Dead Space, as well as dogfights in space with Star Wars Squadrons. The combination of these skills for an Iron Man game sounds exciting, but we may have to wait a long time for the first reveal of the game, as the developer is still hiring key roles for the title.
Marvel’s Black Panther (Untitled)
After tasting success with single player games from various studios, EA seems to be all in on Marvel. Not only is the company funding an Iron Man game, but we’re also getting a standalone Black Panther game from Cliffhanger Games, a new studio. Details are scarce, but we do know that Black Panther will be a single-player, third-person game. The game is still early days, but with talented developers with credits like Middle Earth, Halo Infinite, God of War, and Call of Duty, we may be getting a proper Black Panther game that will hopefully reach the same heights of success as the game. film franchise.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 3
Technically, it hasn’t been officially announced, but given the Spider-Man 2 post-credits tease, a third entry in the wall crawler’s story is all but a given. Insomniac has confirmed that Miles Morales will be the main Spider-Man in their games going forward, which is interesting as the third game will seemingly bring back Otto Octavius as a partnership with Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin. The second game’s post-credits scene also teases the debut of Cindy Moon aka Silk. We also get to see Cletus Kasady returning as Carnage as teased in one of the game’s side missions.
