Searchlight Pictures has given us a new look at Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan by unveiling a new clip from A complete unknown before its release on Christmas Day.
The new clip introduces us to Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, who is as cool, calm and collected as you’d expect someone to portray the iconic singer-songwriter behind hits like “I walk the line” and “Fire circle“.
A complete unknownDirector James Mangold previously directed Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash in his 2005 film Walk the lineleading Phoenix to an Academy Award nomination and the first win for Reese Witherspoon, who played June Carter.
Now to Holbrook, who played at Mangold’s Logansteps into the shoes Phoenix once walked.
The clip also features a clip of Chalamet as Dylan leaning against the fence of what appears to be an apartment complex or motel, watching Cash wreak havoc in his convertible.
Chalamet has lived with the role of Bob Dylan for more than five years, being cast in 2019 with the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA strike putting the project on hold.
At a recent press conference, Chalamet said that his performance “is an interpretation. This is not the definitive act”, making it clear to the audience going to see this film that his performance is just that, a performance.
Mangold said something similar at a press conference, asking the question, “Is it possible to really know someone who is real?” to the question of whether it is ever possible to truly know the real Bob Dylan.
A complete unknown will arrive in theaters on December 25, 2024.
