Blake Shelton had no idea he was going to make an international FaceTime faux pas.
During a CMT interview posted on TikTok on Sunday, December 15, the 48-year-old country star shared a “humiliating” story from years ago involving his now 16-year-old stepson Zuma. Confusion? The youngster, the youngest of Gwen Stefani’s three sons, accidentally FaceTimed country music legend Vince Gill — while Gill, 67, was in Amsterdam with The Eagles.
“He thought he was calling his babysitter Vince, and Vince Gill called,” Shelton explained. “I was walking through the house and I heard Vince Gill’s voice laughing and I looked over and saw Zuma drop the phone.
The confused “God’s Country” singer said Zuma “was like, ‘I don’t know, there was some man who answered Vince’s phone.’
When Shelton called his friend back, the musician shared why he picked up the random call in the first place. “Man, I was laughing,” Gill told the first Voice coach. “I thought you must have been drunk or something.
Although Zuma was initially taken aback by the unexpected encounter, it turned out that the accident turned him into the “I Still Believe In You” singer’s biggest fan. “Now, a few years later, Zuma is the biggest Vince Gill fan in the world,” Shelton said. “He’s like, ‘Can we FaceTime him again?'”
Shelton’s response? “No, never really,” he declared. “That was humiliating to me!”
The country music icon, who has been married to Stefani, 55, since 2021, takes his role as stepfather to her three sons seriously. In addition to Zuma, the “Sweet Escape” singer has sons Kingston, 18, and Apollo, 10, with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. Shelton has often talked about how becoming a stepparent changed his priorities.
“This isn’t about me anymore and it never will be,” said the proud stepdad People in 2022. “The kids see me as a very important person in their lives… I take that to heart.”
